Bonnie
Chávez brings to her legal practice unique skill and insight
arising from litigating at one of the largest law firms in the
world, followed by several years in-house at two major media companies.
Bonnie is fluent in both spoken and written Spanish and has broad
experience with Latin American-oriented business in both transactional
and litigation contexts, especially relating to mass media.
At
Holland & Knight LLP, an international law firm of over 1000
lawyers, Bonnie litigated matters on behalf of US and international
clients related to labor, property, bankruptcy, corporate, commercial,
education, civil rights, trusts and estates, entertainment, securities
and intellectual property matters.
Later,
as manager of business affairs at Univision Music Group, Bonnie
drafted and negotiated recording agreements, songwriting and publishing
agreements, sampling clearances, internet-related music licensing
agreements, master use and synchronization licenses, as well as
record distribution agreements in English and in Spanish. She
was directly involved with the integration of a newly acquired
Mexican music label, and regularly advised label executives on
market, clearance and license matters.

| Bonnie
also served as legal counsel for over two years at Spanish media
giant Univision Communications, Inc. At Univision Bonnie drafted
and implemented network contracts, including promotional, marketing
co-sponsorship, software and trademark licensing agreements. She
advised marketing, sales and programming executives for the record
label, television and radio stations regarding marketing, promotions,
and related intellectual property matters. Bonnie was responsible
for the integration of newly acquired radio stations, which included
formulating and providing on-site and telephonic company-wide presentations,
training initiatives and corporate policies. She worked extensively
with Univision’s risk management department to evaluate and
reduce company liability exposure. She also supervised outside counsel
in litigation involving network disputes, intellectual property,
media and employment issues.
Bonnie is a 1996 graduate of the UCLA School of Law. She earned
a masters degree from the UCLA Graduate School of Urban Planning
in 1993, and holds a B.A. from UCLA, where she majored in English
and Spanish Literature.
Bonnie
is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Association
of Corporate Counsel America, the Latina Lawyers Bar Association
and the Mexican American Bar Association. She is a life member of
the UCLA Alumni Associaton.
Bonnie
has served on the boards of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles,
Padres Contra el Cancer and the Housing Rights Institute.
